Planning your adventure:
Invest in good equipment
Depending on the length of your trip, the type of vacation you’re going on, and where you’re going, I always recommend doing your research on suitcases, backpacks, and other useful accessories.
For example, whenever I go to European countries, I always bring either a backpack or a duffle bag. The nature of my trips usually involves moving to different areas within the country, so lugging around a bulky suitcase on cobblestone streets isn’t the easiest, not to mention climbing up stairs.
Here’s a few of my recommended travel items I bring everywhere I go :
Packing DO’s And DON’T
I love bringing everything with me when I travel, but from experience, you rarely use all the items you bring. Here are my recommended do’s and don’ts for packing:
- Dos:
- Bring clothes that you can mix and match.
- Pack shoes that are comfortable to wear.
- Always bring a battery pack.
- Save room for souvenirs.
- If you’re traveling internationally, get a portable converter for your electronics.
- Bring what you really need for toiletries. You can always buy products when you get to your destination.
- Bring a small bag to travel with on your on-foot adventures.
- Necesities: card, ID, passport, photocopy of passport, CASH
- Earbuds or earphones (earbuds are better as they’re more compact)
- Don’ts:
- Don’t bring bulky suitcases if you’re going to be moving around a lot.
- Don’t forget your chargers!
- Don’t pack so much that you can’t move around easily.
- Don’t forget to pack your sense of adventure!
Budget, budget, budget!
It’s so easy to spend money while on vacation, but creating a budget plan for your trip is the best way to keep track of how much you’re spending. Keep in mind that if you’re traveling internationally, some banks do have an international fee every time you use your card. I recommend applying for Revolut, which allows you to transfer money to your account so you can use it abroad and not worry about those pesky international fees. Another great resource I recommend is downloading TravelSpend app, which helps you budget your trip and provides visual graphs to see your spending amount.
Safety first!
Traveling is always a lighthearted feeling, but it’s always smart to be prepared for any problems along the way. Whether you’re traveling abroad or in the US, be aware of hospitals, police stations, and current local news. Traveling abroad, I highly recommend getting the country’s emergency numbers and embassy numbers just in case you need them. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Most importantly, keep family and friends aware of your whereabouts. Be a smart traveler, not a stupid one.
On the trip:
- Don’t be afraid to talk to locals. Locals have the best places to visit and trust me, you’ll be surprised at the memories they’ll lead you to.
- Hostels are often the best and most affordable options for those traveling internationally. You’re able to meet so many people and have great connections or ideas of more places to adventure to.
- Enjoy every moment, take pictures, and don’t worry about the little things. This is your adventure, so make the most of it!
I hope these tips help you plan your next adventure!
